Plainlist is local-first and account-free. Your tasks live in a plain text .todo file on your own device. We don't run servers for your data, we don't have accounts, and we don't track you.
What we collect
No analytics or tracking. Plainlist has no analytics and no advertising SDKs. Crash reporting is off by default and only turns on if you explicitly enable anonymous crash reports in Settings. We have no account system, so there is no profile, email, or usage history stored anywhere by us.
Where your data lives
Your tasks are stored in a plain text file that you choose, on your device. You can open it, edit it, back it up, sync it through your own iCloud/Dropbox/git, or delete it — entirely outside the app. The app also keeps local working files (settings and rolling backups) in your operating system's standard application-support folder. These never leave your machine.
Network access
The app works fully offline unless you explicitly enable anonymous crash reports or open an external link. Links to this website, the feedback board, or email support go to your browser/mail client and the destination's own privacy terms apply.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled and delivered locally by your operating system. No notification content is sent to us or any third party.
Payments
Plainlist is paid once. When purchased through a storefront (such as the Mac App Store or a payment processor), that provider handles the transaction under their own privacy policy. We receive only the information needed to fulfil a purchase — never your task data.
Children
Plainlist is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above changes with it. Because the app collects almost nothing — only opt-in, anonymous crash reports — changes will be rare.
